About the Author Jenny Lloyd was born in England, and has lived there, in Italy, and in Mexico before moving to the United States in 1980. She is a retired history professor from The College at Brockport, and the author of four scholarly articles and one academic book. She began writing memoir and creative non-fiction in the 1990s, and has published memoir pieces in Biography and The Big Brick Review. She is also the author of Catching Meggie The Runaway Shetland Sheepdog (Createspace, 2013), about the nine-month effort to bring home their sheltie that ran away while she and her partner were in England.

The narrator is a "good girl"—not prone to getting into trouble—but that does not make for dull reading. I read a lot of memoirs, but this was the first time in a long time that I got caught up in the story and didn't want to put it down at night.Lloyd uses a linear structure, mostly written in exposition, focusing heavily on the interior of the narrator but with vivid details. Her willingness to look at her own shortcomings keeps this from being sentimental. Lloyd was really able to make the time and place come alive for me, and she grew up very differently than I did. I particularly liked how she was able to describe hardship without bitterness—she didn't whitewash her childhood but also didn't dwell on the negative either.

A Real Gem of a Memoir, Not to Be Missed By Kiva Wyandotte In this book, Jenny Lloyd has made the transition from scholarly historian to successful memoir author as she recounts her childhood and shares a truly entertaining story of family and the culture of the times. Being neither British nor a child of the post war years, I still found In My Mind's Eye gentle, compelling and in depth... just the way I like my pleasure reading. Highly recommended!

I grew up on a farm By MCW Received this book as a Christmas presents and absolutely devoured it. Perfectly paced and engaging. The review on the back cover compared this work to a James Herriot book and it certainly did not disappoint. I grew up on a farm too and strongly related to her stories- the experiences are timeless.I sincerely hope there is a sequel!
