The classic history of Western civilization By A Customer Gibbon's work is simply the best history of any period ever written in the English language. His prose is fluid and musical, his research into the authentic source materials exhaustive and complete, and his mastery of the elements of structure and pace make his exposition eminently lucid. In short, his history combines all the elements required of historical prose: it is precise, accurate, and readable. And in addition to all this, Gibbon has given us a history of one of the most important, but least well understood periods of transition in Western civilization: bridging the gap from the end of classical antiquity to the beginning of the Renaissance. I highly recommend this masterpiece to anyone interested in the history of Europe. Whether you are an expert or a novice you will find this work both greatly entertaining and informative. A must have in any serious library!

Keep an open internet connection handy to google words however. Some are antique and not currently in usage. This fellow is among the best writers I have ever read. Clive James, Hitchens, Orwell, Huxley, and any historical writer is in debt to Gibbons.

A book called, "How to Not Have Your Eyes Glaze Over While Not One But Two Husbands Talk About Ancient Rome." That's right. I've been through this twice. You know, I ought to write that book. I bet it'd be spectacular. Wowza, I better call Random House--I've got a winner. Maybe I can do it cosmetics-cop emoji rating style with smilies, frowns, and maybe that little thing that looks like poo but not tacky like real poo. Like Caligula, he would TOTALLY get one of those little crappy emojis.Honestly, this is the one you want. Cause my husband said so. He is The Man. He knows. He says Womersley is the best editor. And when he gets done reading this, he works on his Lego collection. It's the ying, and the yang. Dead Romans, little plastic stormtroopers. Livin' the dream, baby.
