All too often, the perception of the African people presented by various forms of media is one of small children with tear-filled eyes and fractured, skinny bodies barely clinging to life. While these situations certainly exist in places around the continent, they present a distorted view of African people as hopeless rather than hopeful.
In Journey of Hope, author Dorothy M. Leveque, EdD, cofounder of Pathways/Africa, presents a detailed chronicling of her sixteen-day humanitarian trip to Tanzania that showcases her organization’s belief that positive change can happen. These firsthand accounts show that friendship, long-term relationships, and jointly established goals for the use of funds can assist individuals and groups in making significant changes in their daily lives and those around them.
For fans of Greg Mortenson’s Three Cups of Tea and Stones Into Schools, as well as Jeffrey Sachs’s The End of Poverty: How We Can Make It Happen in Our Lifetime, this remarkable journal highlights the beauty and hope that can be found in the lives of the extraordinary peoples of Africa.

By Linda Meyer What an wonderful journey this book takes you on through the eyes of the author. Dorothy shares the love and the passion she feels for Africa and it's people. This book makes you feel like you are right there with her on the journey. The true stories of the people of Africa are so well written by the author. This book shows the success stories of individuals and their struggle to reach their goals. Dorothy shows a side of Africa that most people never see or hear about. I read this book in one day, I just couldn't put it down. This is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. You must read this book and be inspired like I was about the journey these individuals had to take to succeed!Well done Dorothy!

I read the whole book in one sitting because I could not put it down. (I actually wanted to know more and hear about other adventures.) It was truly a Journey of Hope that is still continuing on and on for those in Tanzania and all of Africa. I was so touched and actually cried reading about the children and what they endure and do without every day. My heart goes out to them. But the author taught me a valuable lesson: that these extraordinary people are proud and courageous and just want a chance to work hard and make it on their own, "Give a hand up, not a handout". I think we all need to pick up some of those shattered crystals and do what we can in life to give a hand up to those who want to help themselves. Thank you Dr. Leveque for writing such an inspiring and heart-felt story. I can feel your love and hope you have for these people. I am looking forward to more!

My wife and I are pleased to be friends with Dr By Amazon Customer My wife and I are pleased to be friends with Dr. Leveque who insists we simply call her " Dottie ". We've taken two trips to Africa and both trips we spent a few days with Dr. Dottie and her knowledge of the country and the things we learned about Tanzania were indeed extras that made those trips memorable. We enjoyed the well written book and purchased a second one to donate to a charity during the next few weeks. We wish Dr. Dottie every success with her book because she'll continue to give back on her success to all the children in her life, that mean so much.Great job " Dottie " !
