Excerpt from The McClung Genealogy: A Genealogical and Biographical Record of the McClung Family From the Time of Their Emigration to the Year 1904Fifteen years ago I began to search for the descendants of my father's eldest uncle - James McClung. I searched eight years and a half before I succeeded in finding them. While searching for these, however, I discovered several hundred other McClungs, of whom I had never heard before. At first I had no thought of publishing the results of my research, but as time passed and the genealogical data began to accumulate, the necessity for preserving it in a more permanent form and giving it a wider circulation became apparent. The record will be found to lack uniformity, owing to the fact that my system of registration was not complete when the work began, but developed as the work proceeded. The record begins with the earliest known ancestor and traces the descendants of his eldest son down to date, then traces the descendants of the second son and then the third, and so on to the youngest. Two numbers, separated by a hyphen, precede each name. The first number represents the number of the child in the family. The second number represents the generation to which he belongs. The volume contains a record of nine generations, including the names of about 3,500 McClungs, exclusive of those who have acquired the name by marriage into the family. The length of the biographical sketches does not represent the relative merit of the individuals. Many who deserve extensive mention do not receive it because either they or their kindred have neglected my repeated requests for information concerning them. No attempt has been made either to flatter or to slander any one.The names of the various branches are chosen arbitrarily. They are neither inclusive nor exclusive. For example, the Pittsburgh branch does not include all the McClungs who live in Pittsburgh. On the other hand, some who belong to the Pittsburgh branch do not live in Pittsburgh or even in the State of Pennsylvania. Again, the Texas branch constitutes but a very small proportion of those bearing the name McClung who live in Texas.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. By Diana The McClung family information in this book is excellent, though I am not a geneaologist and cannot confirm information, I believe that most of it is probably reliable, as it is unlikely the author had an reason to do other than be as factual as possible. The book was written in 1904. We were thrilled to find my husband's grandparents marriage record there. This is the first time my husband has known his grandfather's correct given name - he only knew a nickname. He also learned who his great and great-great grandfathers (and further back) were and where their families are buried so that we can visit their gravesites. The hardback version of this book, which I gave my brother-in-law for his birthday, has excellent, clear copies of the manuscript's pages. This paperback version that I ordered later for my husband and his sisters does not. That is why I gave the book only 4 stars. Print is faded and very difficult to read. Though the softback's cover is very nicely done and the book's content is complete, it would be worth the additional cost to have a book that one can read more easily. If price really does deter you from getting the thirty dollars + hardback, then this book will certainly do, and you can make out the print, just be aware that it is more than a bit frustrating to read. I am going to buy my husband a hardback copy.

Crappy Printer By Pixote McClung I think my printer at the house is better than the printer that they use. & to top that there are ads in the first few pages. I will NEVER buy anything from them. The ads are NOT appropriate for a book to keep in the family.
