Come on this poetic journey with me and sail the seas of a hidden history that we all must treasure!! What you are about to read will give you the spark you need to begin your own journey of cultural knowledge if you haven't began already. For those of you who are Moor knowledgeable, each poem will truly resonate within your soul. I am certain you will relate to this poetic journey and we can continue to educate and support our people as we build a more cultured union amongst ourselves. I challenge each person that reads this book to spend time learning about Moorish culture and being open to its traditions, not only is it a part of history but it is hidden for a reason. I don't expect you to agree with everything you are about to read but it is my hope that you choose to seek understanding and do the necessary research before rejecting my truth which I based on our truth. We as a people today are programmed not to know, so we don't know what to search for when we feel we want to know, therefore we get lost in whatever is presented to us; it is time we take the time to find ourselves. This book of poetry describes history and truth in a way that enlightens me as to who we are as a people and what can be achieved. A family discussion type of book. Great for me and my daughters especially in today's society. A young Maya Angelou in the making but on her own level and for this generation. SeKeithia is a leader headed for greatness that society cannot contain or put in a box. Looking forward to many more of your books to surface and reprogram our youth. This is history in the making! Can't wait for the hard copy.

Amy's first book of poetry is written as an awakening. She explores writing as a journey that contemplates the existence of spirit and energy as interactions within herself, others, and the universe as a whole. A path of awareness through the honest writings of her darkest manic pain and the light of infinite love. Written with an abundance of different perceptions, while including a supernatural way that most deny or don't consider.

When Grace Wheaton's former professor calls to warn her that there have been a rash of thefts at various historical sites, Grace isn't surprised, because Marshfield Manor has been targeted, too. She wonders if it has something to do with the film crew roaming the grounds, digitally immortalizing the manor, but then she gets distracted by an incident much more dire: the shooting of one guest and the murder of another. Grace does her best not to go looking for trouble, but with a murderer on the loose, she can't seem to leave the dirty work to the cops-especially since the killer still seems to be lurking around town, waiting to finish the job of making Grace history.

Julie Hyzy is one that has not disappointed me. The Manor House Mystery series is *very* good and the latest addition---"Grace Among Thieves" is excellent. Grace ends up in the midst of another murder investigation and also once again ends up in deadly peril. The plot is engaging and this is just the kind of book I can't put down where you suspect one person, then another. You question everyone's motivations. It's great. Pick it up and give it a try.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Julie Hyzy strikes again! By jjelizalde Julie Hyzy absolutely has another hit on her hands. Grace Among Thieves picks up where Grace Interrupted left off. Grace is back with another murder in Marshfield Manor, a film crew wandering around and a thief on the loose. This is a must read for cozy mystery fans.

There's thievery, murder and relationships in the mystery. The Marshfield Manor reminds me of the Barnes Foundation are collection when it was located in Merion, PA. Julie Hyzy's writing echoes her amazing research before she writes a book. The book quickly engages you in the first 2 pages as you are inside Grace's head when she is going through different scenarios before responding to Bennett's request to talk. You start the journey with Grace as she works leave the investigation of thefts to the police only to jump in feet first to find the culprits while trying not to get murdered. Why did I start this with Ready... Set... Read? I found myself grabbing my Kindle to continue reading the book throughout the day... Grocery Store line... gas station while pumping gas... home when I was supposed to finish working on a project. I read every opportunity that I could because I was riveted. I felt like I was Grace. I loved the town and the people. This is what I like about reading Julie's books - GREAT escapes!

The Boss Always Sits In The Back: A Memoir, by Jon D'Amore

About the Author The place was Hudson County, New Jersey...minutes away from midtown Manhattan. Jon D Amore was first published at 10 when a story he d written about the Civil War was distributed throughout the county school system. During that time, Jon began studying the guitar, leading him to hone his love and knowledge of music and composing. By his 20s, he was traveling cross-country as a musician. While touring, Jon was also a feature writer for New Jersey s 3rd largest newspaper, The Passaic Herald News, allowing him to enjoy the best of his favorite worlds...playing music and writing. Eventually, he found a different side of life. He said, Goodbye and it s been a slice! to the music business and entered the corporate world. By the millennium another change took place. For more than two decades, Jon knew that within him there was the desire and ability to write, so he drove to Los Angeles and started as soon as he arrived. He didn t stop until the manuscript and screenplay for The Boss Always Sits In The Back were completed. Jon didn t want to write just another mob story. Instead, he crafted a suspenseful, exciting and entertaining story based on one of the greatest scams to hit Las Vegas...a scam that changed history and gambling laws across America forever! Through Jon s eyes...and from the words of his Godfather, an underboss who told his story before he died...The Boss Always Sits In The Back reveals the demise of the mobsters who ran northern New Jersey. Jon has written and co-written several screenplays and articles. He still resides in California where he continues to write...and listen to music.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Bravo Bravissimo! By Jim Chieco The book is an extraordinary adventure and actually a love story of sorts of a cousin for a cousin, a Godson for his Godfather, and a student for his mentor. I coulldnt put the book down and coming from Hudson County related totally to the characters and La Famiiglia throughout. One of the best Stories of what happens behind the scenes in the mob in a long long time. This book is a must read for anyone who enjoys the Glamour of La Cosa Nostra's dealings. Enjoy!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Loved it. By Judy Ketchum I'm reading it a second time. So immersed in the story, what was going to happen next, the wild, crazy and scary ride that I realized at the end I was reading a perfect book. Masterfully written. The timing for each 'round' exceptional. Beautifully formatted and not a typo anywhere. For me I wish there was a sequel but I don't think Jon would go another round. A very wild time for a young man to survive and tell the tale, even a kid from Jersey. Thank you Jon for telling us your story.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. An Especially Well-Written and Entertaining Tale By Peaceful & Easy This may not be an entirely objective review; for one thing, I am Italian and have strong ties to New Jersey (I know, those are two things); for another, I lived and played in the same areas of Los Angeles that much of this story took place in at the same time that the acts and actions described in the book happened. I am nearly certain that Jon and I must surely have bumped into one another at some time.I am also, however, a professor of English specializing in expositional composition and am being wholly objective when I say that Jon's story is extraordinarily well-written.The dichotomous juxtaposition of irony and humor against horror and violence - and the accompanying rapid changes of the readers' facial expressions from shock and disgust to mirth and satisfaction - left my face sore after each session with this wonderful story.Anyone anywhere who has ever enjoyed any cop show on TV or has any interest whatsoever in vicariously delving into the underworld of Mafioso 'family' life should get hours of reading enjoyment and pleasure from "The Boss Always Sits in Back" by Jon D'Amore.

As new Christians we very often find ourselves falling in to our old habits, trying to control trials that come into our lives, feelings of lost hope, feelings that we are all alone. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. It jumped around By Nicolaus sports fan. The book was obviously written by an anglophile with an under-developed appreciation of the history of the franco-anglo conflict in north America. It started out interestingly enough but jumped around. Scant attention is given to the fact that 3,000 French Canadians held off the onslaught of British migration (about 380,000 british) to north America for over a century. There are a few nuggets in the book but it could have been a bit more balanced.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. New France and New England By Edmund Muzzy An interesting story of the settlement of the new world by France and England. The author does digress and includes two chapters on New England religion and New England witch hut; neither which is relevant to the main theme.

Whom to Lean On --- Out of a War-Torn Country is a collection of memoirs of a group of senior Chinese-American immigrants who retired together in the same community of Rossmoor in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of them represented the first wave of Chinese immigrants who came to this country during or right after World War II. Unlike the earlier generations of immigrants, they did not come to seek fortune. Many were university students coming for advanced studies or on Chinese government service. They became stranded in this country because of the change of Chinese Government. Through hard work in this land of opportunity, they were able, each on their own way, to settle down, make a success of their career. The book, written in Chinese by a junior resident of Rossmoor, contains the life stories of sixteen such senior Chinese-American couples. At least one of each couple has lived into the age of 90s. They have a wide range of backgrounds, occupations and interests. The artfully written narratives that tell their stories from young age to maturity are both instructive and pleasant to read. Their lives are depicted in a historical context, starting from wartime in China and following their arrival in the United States. Individually, their stories, even at difficult times, are compelling, upbeat and filled with anecdotes. Collectively, their stories epitomize an uncommon generation of Chinese immigrants who took up challenges, availed themselves of opportunities, made many accomplishments in their professional careers and eventually congregate in a peaceful community to enjoy retirement.

A series of historical true stories told by its most victorious survivors By JJ Tang This is a very interesting and engaging book based on the true life stories tolded by14 over 90-year-old Chinese American individuals who are currently still living actively in Rossmoor CA. Among them, there is the founding father of Taiwan's movie industry; renowned Chinese cuisine chef; famed soprano and vocal teacher; engineers and professors; scientists; UN diplomat; etc... It is especially valuble with a historical background which spans more than 9 decades and 2 countries. I especially like the fact that although the 14 individual life stories are stand alone and totally unique, the book gives a rare insight through these stories, life in the peacful historic period before the Japanese invasion, then the big escape to avoid the front line during the Sino-Japanese War, which often involves the individual to migrate almost all the way South, often on foot; to National army's defence while trying its best to keep schools/education going during the war; to the Army's defeat, to the communist took over. Following that, it was the unique yet more familiar stories of new immigrates builing a new life and living dreams in America the promised land. The book is a page turner and resonants with your heart. Highly recommended.

Rich in naturalistic detail, the novel concentrates on the individual problems and hardships which result from the typical shortages experienced by the lower classes — want of money, employment and decent living conditions.

The Nether World, by George Gissing

From the Back Cover This is a tale of intrigue, as rapacious schemers try to wrest a fortune out of a mysterious old man who has returned to their midst, and of thwarted love. There is no sentimentality. This is a world in which the strong exercise power against their own kind, scheming and struggling for survival, a world from which, Gissing bleakly maintains, there can be no escape.

17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Another True Glimpse at Victorian Times By T. George In "The Nether World," Gissing gives you another one of his hard, realistic looks at life in London in Victorian times. This time he focuses on the poorest of the poor in the Clerkenwell area of London. These are people whom England's infantile labor laws generally can't help. If/When they can find work, they often work 16 hours per day all week, and the wages they earn hardly cover rent for a very small room in disreputable housing. It's a world where unwanted children multiply like rabbits, and the death of any family member is usually seen as a relief of one less mouth to feed. For all these reasons, this world - this nether world - is a world about which the upper and middle classes are happily ignorant. Those born into these lowest levels of humanity often rail about the injustice of being born into such circumstances. However, their cries for social reform, their desperate attempts to better themselves, and their pitiful needs for simple pennies are never really heard or understood by those more comfortably off.Within this novel, then, Gissing explores the lives of a range of characters as they deal with being born in the nether world. While he focuses on the heart-warming characters of Jane Snowdon and Sidney Kirkwood, Gissing competently develops the storyline of a large number of other Clerkenwell characters whose lives intertwine with Jane's and Sidney's. In his distinct manner, Gissing is mercilessly honest and yet generally compassionate with the characters whose lives he examines. Thus, he offers a glimpse of the slums - full of love, ambition, corruption, greed, and despair - in a manner that many of us would never know otherwise. Many compare or try to compare this kind of honest look at the rougher side of London with Dickens. However, it is important to note that Dickens tended to idealize poverty and always brought things to a hopeful, positive ending. Gissing does no such thing. Though an educated man, Gissing himself suffered cruelly from poverty and mixed with these classes as he struggled to support himself as an author (see "New Grub Street"). Thus, he has no idealist views of poverty and simplistic lives.Additionally, Gissing has a penchant for realistic storylines. It is unnerving to read his books, actually, because you can't rest on the fact that he will work everything out nicely in the end. In fact, he usually doesn't. He is courageous enough to write true-to-life outcomes to very frustrating, dispiriting circumstances. It is probably why he never became a popular author as readers often want happy endings - with a Ghost of Christmas Past if necessary - in order to relieve their consciences. All in all, another great work by Gissing. He does get a bit preachy (even as he reveals the preachiness of others as futile), but that is easily overlooked. The accurate historical glimpse of London that he gives is invaluable. And I imagine that his brutally honest portrayal of life might speak to the impoverished among us today

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Don't buy this edition By Lara I'm not commenting on the novel itself here (although it is an interesting, if problematic, look at London's underworld), but I do want to warn readers against buying this Echo Library edition. There is no contextual material (no intro, afterword, or notes), which would have been useful, but more annoying is the fact that the copy editor for this press appears to have been asleep while editing this edition. There are three or four major typos on every page (glaring typos-- periods in the middle of words, apostrophes instead of commas, mispelled words). Sometimes there are even words missing, which makes the prose difficult to follow. This novel is worth reading, but try to find a different edition.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A noble heart sheltered by ignorance By H. Schneider Gissing's novel about working class life, bleak and angry, published in 1889, shares a main plot element with Dickens' Great Expectations: an expected inheritance, here from a returner from down-under. There was a trend in Victorian fiction to write about the `condition of England'. Gissing was one of the bleakest contributors: he offered no optimism, no way out, no reason for optimism. His endings were of the kind that we saw recently in the movie Winter's Bone: deceptive little meaningless pseudo triumphs, not more than moments of rest. People don't rise from the nether world. Upper and nether worlds don't have any permeable interfaces.Central hero of this decently depressing master piece is a qualified worker in the jewelry industry, with some lost illusions about talent in art and with a failed young love. While still a young man, `he reached the stage of confident and aspiring radicalism, believing in the perfectibility of man, in human brotherhood, in anything you like that is the outcome of a noble heart sheltered by ignorance'. That stage was gone now, `to give place to nothing very satisfactory'. The man tries to stay decent, to have friendships, to help people worse off than he is himself...Gissing's Pip-equivalent is young Jane, the grandchild of the old man who came back from Ossiland and who is expected to leave something to her. At the outset of the novel she is 13 and she is for all practical purposes a domestic slave in a boarding house, mistreated by a sadistic tyrant of a teenage daughter of the owner. We get to meet rather many un-nice people down here in the nether world. Poverty is not conducive to social graces, and decency is challenged hard under miserable conditions.Gissing was not much of a sympathizer with the 'low classes', nor was he a 'radical', nor was he a modernizer of literature. What he brought to his subject here is detailed knowledge based on own experience as well as on meticulous research. The Oxford World Classics edition that I have gives us excerpts from Gissing's note books in the appendix, where he wrote down the facts of life for use in the book.

The author's honesty and openness through the highs and lows of her life were riveting. A raw, first-hand account of the disease of addiction. She humbly walks you through the story of her life, never giving a dull moment. You will laugh, cry, and sit at the edge of your seat waiting for the next turn in her story. I've never heard a story quite like this one. I especially recommend it to those who have experienced the disease of the addiction or know someone who has.

The aristocratic Monsieur Simon with his consort Josephine, lives in the demi-monde of Paris, consorts with criminals and artists, and exacts "contributions" from various evil-doers in the "Court of St. Simon" an underground tribunal of, for, and by, the criminal class. One evening, he brings along with the the jaded youth Eugene d'Argminac who falls under the spell of blood lust and becomes a criminal himself.M. Simon, bored with Paris, returns to England, where we find that he is really the Valentin, Vicomte de Souspennier. He visits his sister, the Lady Carlingford, whose neighbor is the lovely, but unmarried Sophy Arlen. Amidst the roses of her gardern, the two fall immediately and passionately in love. What could go wrong? Well, Sophy Arlen is actually the sister of d'Argminac, who has become a wastrel and worse. Sophy and Valentin quickly marry, but Valentin neglects to tell her that he is the "cause" of her brother's dissolution.Years pass happily, a girl child is born. But Sophy (the mother) discovers that her husband has lied and she spurns him, completely.More years pass, Valentin is living very frugally in London. Surprisingly, His wife (Sophy) sends their now 8 year old daughter to live with him in his boarding house. Valentin rises to the occasion, but curses his wife for valuing her freedom more than the child. Eventually D'Argminac is released from prison and finds himself once again in the hands of criminals. Will Sophy (the child) bring about a reconciliation? Will pride and prejudice doom the marriage? Read the book.

I have been living with a weight on me since late January of 2014. An experience I had with 2CI shook me in an extreme way. It changed me and who I am today. From this time, I have spent days living with depression, fear, anxiety, numbness and other painfully difficult emotions. Along the way, the hardest thing for me to do was truly express myself. This book is a compilation of my experience over the months of recovery, as well as the poetry i wrote to release the emotional tension within. It chronicles my process of healing as well as a compilation of the steps i took in thought and emotional discovery towards finding happiness. Slowly slipping into sadness I sing songs of sorrow Tomorrow never looked so grim  I wish today wouldn’t stay And before is a door I’m glad i got through  Each moment is a component of this terrifying melody gripping me  And its tipping the scales of my mind Darkness prevails while i find less to relate to the light    Hate dominates  Anger appreciates  Laziness pontificates  While fear delegates the whole negative choir  And i perspire trying to change the melody Steadily sailing I sink into seas of sorrow  I beg of you, let me borrow your love  My boat has lost its ability to float  And your care will help me prepare for the icy seas of dis ease that seize me Tease me with simple nothings so my mind may focus on hocus pocus instead of the problem at hand I can't stand this visceral separation I can feel the congregation of empty space taking the place where my grace used to be No more feelings of empathy as apathy consumes sympathy for the ones I love, no longer allowing me to rise above the waves Turning expanse into caves with liminal room A phenomenal womb of contraction The nominal tomb where gloom becomes my doom Waiting for the world to swallow and consume my everything When death will bring the sweetest release Peace

You can truly feel the love and frustration on every line. When you read it you really are in Nicholas world and in the middle of all the chaos all you are left with is love. So damn beautiful! He is the most divine expression of unconditional love. Read the book!
