When a scholar/feminist, and above all a poet, interprets the art of the museums and churches of Italy, a true offering is given—in words that bear light on their wings. Expedition leader, Sornberger, guides the spirit as well as the intellect. This lovely book is both down-to-earth and ethereal, juxtaposing modern colloquialism with exquisite, jaw-dropping phrasing. It’s delicious, funny, and at times heartbreaking, as she delves into and reflects on other passages of her life while experiencing this new one. I may not find my own enlightenment there, but I might book myself a ticket to Italy just for the hot chocolate! And I’ve found a very special gift some dear ones.
