About the Author JIMMY BURNS, a prize winning author and journalist, was the Financial Times Buenos Aires correspondent during the 1980's. He has been a regular contributor for the BBC, Sky, CNN, The Independent, El Mundo, and the International Catholic Weekly, The Tablet, among others. Well written but reckless By Martin Edwin Andersen Although providing what is in some ways an entertaining, informative and certainly well-written read, Jimmy Burns nonetheless recklessly buys into some of the worst propaganda launched against Pope Francis, focusing on his alleged role during his country's horrific dirty "war." Burns seems to enjoy massaging supposed human rights crusader Horacio Verbitsky's claims that, as Argentina's provincial superior of the Society of Jesus, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was responsible for handing over dissident Jesuit priests to a brutal far-right military junta. This when it was already clear, as fully reported last year in "Doble Agente, La biografia inesperada de Horacio Verbitsky," by noted investigative journalist Gabriel Levinas, that Verbitsky himself was an "efficacious collaborator" with the military during that time of state terror. By throwing coal on a visceral confabulation sold by Verbitsky, the work of Burns, the biographer of one-time soccer hero Diego Maradona, offers a critical penalty kick from those yet to publish about a Pope who, as few others, has inspired the world to work for social justice.
