As an eighteen-year-old young man, Frank B. Bradshaw Jr. served in World War Ii as a sailor in the Merchant Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946. In Forty-Five Letters from a World War Ii Sailor, Robert W. Bradshaw presents a collection of letters his father, Frank, wrote to his parents during a two-year period. It was a dangerous time in history when mariners died at a rate of one in twenty-four, the highest rate of casualties of any service.

From a cold-blooded slaughter in the Ukraine, to illicit sex on the high seas, to coping with food shortages and a loony captain, Frank shares the day-to-day happenings of the life of a sailor on a cargo ship.

Forty-Five Letters from a World War Ii Sailor delivers firsthand World War Ii global insights and a unique historical perspective from the view of an eighteen-year-old man. It provides fodder for future generations to fulfill their American dreams.

In a compelling tribute to his deceased father, the author provides a series of letters his father wrote when stationed with the US Merchant Marines at the conclusion of WW2. The letters are vulnerable, touching, and inspiring. In the late 1940s, interestingly enough, I think many of our young men would have thought about life the same way. Family, God, Country, and Work were the only things that mattered and that comes out clearly in these letters.Though some might be perplexed by the author's seemingly unrelated commentary at the end, I believe it fits quite well with the narrative of the letters. His thoughts reveal the theme of his father's life, and his wishes for the reader- to find fulfillment through service. There is nothing new under the sun. Men & Women make a life out of what they give to others, and the way we do this in past ages, current times, or in the future will always be the same: love God, love others, and do your best. This advice never goes out of style because it is the truth.Well done.

This book is a true honest description of what life was like for one young Merchant Marine. The author published real letters his father wrote home to his parents during his time enlisted from 1944 to 1946.War is always more intense than we know about. The military see and experience things that we can not even begin to comprehend. This book only gives you a small glimpse into the horror of war.Remember to love Family, Love God, Love Country.I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this review are 100% my own.
