In this book, the Battle of Hill 488 is described accurately, in action-packed detail, which you will never find in any other accounts of its history. It also explores the prices paid, and the lengths men will go to in the pursuit of glory. It contains over 100 pictures, some of actual time and location where the story takes place in Vietnam. Men who sincerely intend to dedicate their lives to becoming soldiers and begin to experience the beauty of service, no matter what the ideologies they find themselves fighting for, they never forget what their dedication did to their body, mind, and spirit. The memories become sacred to them for the rest of their lives. Things that were hidden from public view can fester as time passes into the future. In this book the future is now. Few endeavors in life demand the sacrifice of life, as a prerequisite to accomplishing the goals of any given profession. However, men, in their innocence, seeking glory for a just cause, many times see that the light of glory cast dark shadows of betrayal. It has been said those who die in combat are the lucky ones. In the Battle of Hill 488, many who were close to the six men that died have mourned their loss, but time has shown that the twelve survivors were forced to suffer a burden. Shadowed by the light of glory, and hidden in the darkness, there were men who claimed the authority to dictate history. This was the reality the survivors were forced to bow, compromises, or contend with. Despite their lofty intentions, some found it easier to bow, while some were claimed by death due to the confusion within their souls. This story, though taking place in Vietnam during the twentieth century is about the plight of ancient and immortal warriors; young men seeking to make their contributing mark in life, were awakened by the light of glory, and took different paths to endure the dilemma of reality.

I was amazed and immediately got in touch with Mr By B Having read the book Hill 488 many times and being a former Marine and having served in Viet Nam (1967-1968) It left me with questions of why they stayed on that hill as long as they did. All that I could do was speculate and wonder why until I recently met Rick Binns. I was talking with a former Navy Corpsman who lives in our small town in North Idaho and ask him if he had ever read the book. He told me that he had and that there was a survivor living in our little town and that his name was Rick Binns. I was amazed and immediately got in touch with Mr. Binns. Rick and I met and being a Marine myself we became fast friends and spent countless hours discussing the events of that terrible night on hill 488.I will say this up front that I believe every thing that Rick has written, his amazing recall of that night is astounding. That night on that hill was a living hell for everyone involved. I will not bad mouth any Marine or Corpsman on that hill that night because I personally know that when the s*** hits the fan all kinds of things happen! I was not there that night nor even in country until the next year but in my gut, I feel there should have been two MOH's awarded that night and Rick Binns should have been the recipient of that Medal of Honor!.May God Bless the remaining survivors of that Hellish night on hill 488. Being a member of that platoon and having my actions of during t.hat battle being inaccurately By Radioman Hill488 Binns has a bone to pick with the platoon members that don't agree with him regarding Howard's actions before and during the battle. Using my name to say I took part in war crime along with him and others is a total falsehood. Interesting read for someone like me that was there but to others that are interested in actual truths about Hill 488 this ain't it. Binns needs to quit knocking the VA and get the mental help he needs to get rid of HIS demons.

Disappointed By Sandy Flipflops Mr. Binns,Several months ago I was informed by my aunt that this book would be coming out soon and I eagerly awaited it's arrival. Notified today that it was available, I could hardly wait to get off work to dive in to reading it.First, for those others reading this review, I will admit to not reading every word written as I was primarily interested in his depiction of the battle on the hill only but I could barely get though that portion of the book. Not for the violence, or the graphic detail of the bloody battle (honestly there's not a lot of gory details in the battle story) but due to the incredible narcissistic manner in which this story is written. Mr. Binns, I don't know why they bothered putting you in a platoon, to hear you tell the story, anything positive that occurred on that hill was a direct result of you or your actions alone.I wasn't on that hill, so there is no way I could know what really happened, but I do have to question the fact that so many of your platoon mates disagree with your point of view. I hope these really are your memories of that night and not some attempt to steal glory from other men that fought so valiantly beside you and because of that I am giving this book the 3 star rating rather than one. I believe that every man that survived that night deserves to remember them in any way that allows them to go on with their lives, even if no one else remembers it the same way.Sincerely,Rebecca Thompson McKinneyDaughter of Cpl Jerrald R Thompson, casualty of Hill 488
